Whether you are currently in the end of life process, have a family member who is actively dying, or are healthy and want to do planning of have suffered a recent death, Death Doula services can support the logistical, emotional, and spiritual processes related to death and dying, so that you may become more present for the precious moments of life.
Services include but are not limited to:
- While Living
- Determining the right fit for a health care proxy (aka durable medical power of attorney)
- Drafting advanced directives to help determine your desires for health care and other important decisions at end of life
- Discussing and offering education on various options for disposition of the body including newer processes such as green burials, human composting, etc.
- Supporting the process of gathering necessary documents to create a formal will with an attorney
- Facilitating the creation of life review projects and living funerals
- Decluttering and organizing material items at home, determining where you’d like things to go
- Active Dying Process
- Bedside support for a dying person and their family as life comes to an end
- Spiritual Care Support at end of life (See chaplain services)
- Helping the family with various basic needs at this tender time (actual tasks vary)
- After Death
- Supporting the communication with Funeral Homes, and logistics of disposition of the body
- Coordinating home funerals, traditional funerals, and/or celebrations of life
- Logistical support after death with the surviving family or executor of estates. (i.e. phone calls to close accounts, supporting estate sale processes, and other related services.)
